Having obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Ekiti State University, Nigeria, my objective is to study the properties of nuclear fuel in nuclear reactor, analyze thermal properties and possibly improve its thermal conductivity to propose a safer fuel for present and future nuclear reactor.
After the nuclear accident in Fukushima, Japan, which clearly illustrates the risks associated with the present design of reactors based on pure uranium oxide fuel, the research towards accident tolerant fuel becomes necessary. Such accident could have been avoided using nuclear fuels with enhanced thermal conductivity. This research requires both experimental procedure and atomistic simulations using Quantum Expresso, LAMMPS and GULP software
